Do You Have To Prune The Dead Flowers From A Lilac Tree? Or Can You Leave Them And Still Continue To Get Flowers The Next Year?

Answer:
I have heard you should prune the dead flowers from a lilac tree. But, more than 10 years ago we planted 20+ trees contained by our yard, and when they were small I did prune them. But now they are so big , I would requirement a ladder and it would take forever. I leave them and we still bring back tons of flowers every year.
Comment: Thank you. I thought that was the case, as our neighbor never does, and I had to quit. (silly tree get bigger than me, like all kids do, haha) Have a nice day.
Answer: Pruning lilacs right away after blooming help keep them neat and controlled. Miss Kim Drawf mixture (my personal favourite) can be pruned way back (I'm talking solitary inches from the nodule near the ground) and still continue to flower and flourish. KEY POINT TO REMEMBER...pruning MUST take place directly after spring flowering, doing so any later and you will prune away your fragrant blossoms for next year. If you look closely you can see the buds coming in tardy spring for the next season already. Keep your lilacs neat and enjoyable---prune early!
